PEACE paragraphs

PEACE is a paragraph writing structure used to analyse texts. It stands for Point, Evidence, Analysis, Cross-reference, Effects:

POINT: Make a comment about character, setting, theme, etc. (focus on the requirements of the question)

EVIDENCE: Well selected quotations - not too long!

ANALYSIS: Pick out details (key words, images, sounds, etc.) and give your ideas about what they mean.

CROSS-REFERENCE: Link the quote with other parts of the text - compare and contrast.

EFFECTS: Evaluate the effect on the reader - what does the writer want the reader to think, know, feel or do?
